 With much love and likewise much sweat Antonios Sfakakis reconditioned from scratch the old Kafeneion of its uncle Kostas in the years 2004 and 2005. Old Kostas took care for the welfare of his guests in the same place since 1922 up to
his death in December 2003.
For the "Hippies from Matala", the Kafeneion was meeting point and link to the homeland. Here was the post office, where letters from at home arrived. Kostas always kept an eye on his favorites and also had understanding for some possible financial bottlenecks … |
A lot of color and black&white photos at the affectionately restored and ordered natural stone walls testify from the “good old times” - supplemented by a collection of traditional Cretan pieces of facility and household effects.
Together with the most modern requirements sufficient bar range, a singular atmosphere develops in the guest area, which is already worth to make a visit.

Even childless, Old Kostas handed down the Kafeneion, where already in 1968 young people from all over the world met, to his then 27 year old nephew:
Like that "KOSTAS" still is and remains a popular meeting place for young and old, for tourists and natives - whether
with a cocktail in the cosy chairs on the terrace or a “Metrio” on the typical Kafeneion chairs directly at the village route.
